Change of service

The Ark has come to the end of its contract to provide support to unpaid carers in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead through SIGNAL4Carers. Thank you to all the people who have sent us their thanks for our work over the last four years. It has been a pleasure to meet so many of you.

We are living in extraordinary circumstances right now, with many of you concerned about how you will continue to provide care and access basic services such as shopping delivery and prescriptions. There are many charities and neighbourhood organisations in the borough providing valuable support to their community and we urge you to reach out to them if you need help and support.

The borough has asked us to provide you with the following information:

Carers’ support in the Royal Borough

Under the Care Act 2014, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, as a Local Authority, has a duty to assess the needs of unpaid carers and, where there is evidence of eligibility of need, help to arrange support – although this can be subject to financial assessment. The Royal Borough’s Adult Social Care provider, Optalis, has been doing these assessments and will continue to do so.

Anyone, including Carers themselves, can contact Optalis to arrange an assessment for a Carer, by telephoning Optalis on 01628 683744.

In addition, there is a new Carer’s website https://www3.rbwm.gov.uk/info/200178/carers that is now available and will be added to on an ongoing basis. The new website gives Carers information and signposting to other local Carer support groups and will also allow Carers to access free information and advice on:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Financial Planning
  • Support for Caring
  • Technology and Caring
  • Working and caring

If a Carer is already registered or is receiving support, information or advice with Optalis, then no action is needed as the information held by Optalis remains unchanged.

New posters will be sent to GP Surgeries etc. in the next month.

Independent and advice on all local health and social care services continues to be available from Healthwatch Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead:
